NHRC puts CS on notice again

The National Human Right Commission (NHRC) has again directed Chief Secretary of Odisha to take appropriate action on demands of 112 poor displaced families of OTPCL in Dhenkanal district.

On March 3, the NHRC had directed the Chief Secretary to take appropriate action within eight weeks on petition of leader Er Debashisha Hota of the OPTCL Marichakan Nuaganbila Displaced Trade Union.

However, the demands raised by the union were ignored, while the Chief Secretary did not take any action within the stipulated time associating Hota. Therefore, on May 2, Er Hota filed another case with the NHRC.

“The OTPCL was registered on January 29, 2007 whereas the Socio-Economic Survey was made for the plant by the XIMB eight years before.

Therefore, there are many discrepancies in providing compensation to the displaced families.

The major daughters are not included in the displaced list although the Government is advocating for women empowerment and encouraging for Beti bachao, Beti Padhao,” said Hota.
