The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the district Collector of Koraput seeking detailed replies on the sufferings and lack of basic amenities in 68 villages in Koraput district.

Acting on four petitions filed by Supreme Court lawyer and social activist Radhakanta Tripathy, the NHRC passed the orders.

The petitioner alleged that about seventy villages including Gunjia Guda, Majhiguda, Chuaphula, Bikapur, Dumuriguda, Raipada, Badagan, Burudi Sahi, Pottangi, Katraguda, Kenji Guda, Mali Guda, Ghasbanai Guda, Gandrigu among others in Koraput district have been denied of basic human rights as the villages lack basic amenities like potable drinking water, communication facilities, bridges, primary healthcare and education etc.

Considering the allegations made by Tripathy, the NHRC found it serious in nature involving Right to Life. The case involves grave violation of human rights of the villagers, said Tripathy.

In case of the petition related to 43 villagers, the NHRC sought report from the District Magistrate, Koraput who is expected to submit a report to the Commission, within four weeks, positively.

The NHRC also warned the district Collector to invoke coercive process U/S 13 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 calling for a personal appearance of the authority concerned for submission of the report, in case the report is not received within the stipulated time.
