NHRC notice to State on poor facilities to tribal students

Published on:

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought an action-taken report (ATR) from School and Mass Education Secretary over illness of students of Tentoloi Sevashram School in Banarpal block in Angul district within four weeks.

According to complainant Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain, around 60 inmates and students of Tentoloi Sevasram School fell seriously ill as sans any pure drinking and toilet facility. “The students depend on river water for drinking and other purposes which violate their human rights. Due to unavailability of proper drinking and other basic facilities the students fell ill,” said the complainant.

She urged the commission to take disciplinary action against the school/public authorities, besides praying the apex human rights watchdog to ensure pure drinking water and toilet facilities immediately.
