As people from different walks of life step up pressure on the Jagannath Temple Administration and the State Government to apologize Puri Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati for asking him to come to the chariots alone, a case has been filed at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking its intervention for ensuring due respect to the Shankaracharya.
“Public authorities restrained the top Hindu seer Shankaracharya for the worship/darshan of the deities on the chariots and interfered in the religious matters of Hindu faith which amounts not only the violation of human rights but also the Constitution,” said the petitioner Sangita Swain.
The complainant further alleged that the Government has made the Shankaracharya a scapegoat and urged the Commission to initiate criminal, disciplinary and departmental proceedings against those concerned in underestimating the authority of the Shankaracharya.
