Rights activist Sujit Kumar Sahu has moved the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) against hooliganism against SC women by a Biju Yuva Bahini coordinator in Subarnapur.
In his petition, Sahu urged the apex rights body to order a judicial probe into the incident in 30 days and compensation to the victims. He has also sought action against the accused, who is trying to escape by putting political pressure.
Notably, three women gave a complaint in the Tarbha police station as counter against a FIR by Tarbha NAC Biju Yuva Bahini coordinator Janardan Thanapati.
The police had taken one-sided action on the FIR of Janardan. However, coming under flak, the Tarbha police registered a case under various sections and Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against Janardan Thanapati and his nephew.
As per sources, there was an argument between nephew of Janardan and Sani Naik and Amar Naik of Tablapada due to some reason at Tarbha Minabazar. Instead of compromising the silly matter of the boys, by taking advantage of his power of Yuva Bahini, Janardan along with 15 persons rushed to Tablapada the same night and in the absence of male persons, abused all the women in obscene languages by indicating their castes.
He also broke the door of Narendra Naik and a shed of Sani Naik. Then, Janardan abused the complainants in obscene languages by indicating their caste, assaulted and pulled their sarees and threatened to kill them.
After that Tarbha police detained four persons in which two are minor. But till now main accused Janardan has not been arrested although many atrocity act cases have been lodged against him earlier.
