Taking cognizance of a complaint filed by Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the Chief Secretary to submit an action-taken report (ATR) over vacant doctor and medical staff posts in Government hospitals within eight weeks.
“Nearly 10,000 doctor/medical staff posts are lying vacant in almost all the Government-run Medical Colleges and Hospitals due to poor policy decision for appointment of the doctors/medical staff for which they are preferring to the jump private sector. The Medical Council of India is dissatisfied in this regard implies the inaction and unlawful action by the medical/public authority which violates human rights of the patients/general public,” said Swain in her petition.
Swain urged the commission to take emergent action against the concerned authorities, besides urging it to take immediate measures to fill the posts.
