The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has ordered the Jajpur Superintendent of Police to take appropriate action in the case of a minor girl who has been mentally and physically harassed by the Kaliapani police station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC).
The NHRC passed the order based on a petition filed by civil society organisation Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain.
In her petition, Swain alleged that a minor girl Rajashree Das, of village Koliposi under Kaliapani PS was allegedly mentally and physically harassed by Kaliapani police station IIC Jubaraj Swain.
An FIR filed by the minor victim was not registered in Kaliapani PS.
The FIR’s copy was also submitted to the Jajpur SP and DGP but no action was taken against the accused IIC. Swain further alleged that violates human rights due to inaction by the concerned authorities.
She prayed the NHRC to take criminal action against the responsible police authorities, provide protection to the victim and pay Rs 5 lakh compensation to her.
