The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has expressed its displeasure once again over the inaction of the State administration to pay compensation to the land losers in the Reba-Kapali Sanskar Project.
The commission asked the Chief Secretary to submit a detailed report on the payment of compensation and rehabilitation of the land oustees.
The apex human rights watchdog passed the order in continuation of its hearing on the petition filed by renowned rights activist and Supreme Court lawyer Radhakanta Tripathy.
Tripathy in his complaint on November 10, 2009 had drawn the attention of the NHRC towards large scale
violation of human rights, particularly, forceful displacement of more than 20,000 families, including SC, BPl, handicapped, poor farmers, SEBC and minorities during the execution of the projects, including River-Canal Sanskar Projects in the Bhadark district.
Most important to mention here that it was on February 6, 2009, the NHRC had directed the district administration to take appropriate action over the rights violation.
The executive engineer of the drainage division and the then ADM had ruled out payment of compensation in the case of Reba-Kapali
Sanskar Project.
