The National Human Rights Commission has directed the Superintendent of Police, Bhadrak and the IG, Prisons to take appropriate action within four weeks into the allegation of a girl student raped by Bhadrak Jailer Chinmaya Patra.
The NHRC issued this notice on a petition filed by Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain on September 2, 2018.
Swain had alleged that the Jailer raped the girl student and made the sex video viral in the social media on the pretext of job, love and marriage and his act violated human rights of the victim.
Swain had prayed the NHRC to take criminal action against the accused Jailer and provide protection and a compensate Rs 20 lakh to the victim. Besides, she urged for an investigation by the Crime Branch.
