Taking a serious view of the alleged custodial death of one Makhun Bag at the Bheden police station in Bargarh district whose skeleton was found from Meakani forest under Ulunda PS in Subarnapur district, the NHRC has directed the DIG (Investigation) to submit a report within eight weeks.

The apex human rights watchdog too asked the OHRC to also submit a report to it within four weeks.

Angul-based Human Rights Watchdog secretary Sangita Swain has moved the commission alleging that the Bheden PS officials had called Makhun Bag a resident of Bargarh district to police station for interrogation in connection with a case pending against his son.

“But due to severe torture by the police officials Malhun Bag died in the custody and the police officials disposed the body in a forest under Ulunda police station,” petitioner contended. Acting on the petition, the commission has asked DIG, Investigation to collect facts and submit requisite reports within eight weeks. The petitioner urged the commission to order for criminal action against the concerned officials and a compensation of `50 lakh to the kin of the deceased.
