The National Human Commission (NHRC) has asked for an action-taken report from the NHRC DG-I regarding the brutal torture of some youths at the Steel Authority of India (SAIl) mines in Keonjhar district by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel.
The commission has sought the report within four weeks, taking cognisance of a petition filed by civil society organisation Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain.
In her petition, Swain alleged that on February 1, 2015 the CISF personel had severely tortured Kandra Munda, Birsa Bajpai and another unidentified victim in the SAIl Mines under the Bolani PS.
While Kandra’s dead body was found in Koro Reserve Forest and Bisra is still battling for his life in SAIl Hospital and another victim’s whereabouts are still unknown.
Swain alleging violation of human rights by the CISF prayed to the commission to take action against the CISF and police, trace the missing victim and pay Rs 50 lakh compensation to the deceased youth’s kin.
