The NHRC has again directed the Chief Secretary, Odisha to take appropriate action on demands of 112 poor displaced families of the OTPCL Marichakan plant in Kamakhyanagar of Dhenkanal district.
The direction came following a petition by Dalit leader Er Debashisha Hota apprehending that the Dhenkanal administration was going to forcibly evict over 100 families after district Collector Bhumesh Chandra Behera on July 7 sent a false and fabricated letter that all demands of the displaced had been fulfilled. Petitioner Er Hota mentioned that his apprehensions dated May 18 about severe police action against the 112 victims for dislocating them forcefully has been proved by the false and fabricated letter of the Collector. Er Hota requested that the Chief Secretary may be directed to take immediate action in the issue associating him. Acting on the case, on Monday the NHRC directed the Chief Secretary and DGP to ensure that action in the matter is taken as per the established procedure of law.
Welcoming this judgment of NHRC, Er Hota said that, the displaced would leave their homes peacefully if their two demands such as publication of fresh list of displaced people considering all majors including daughters and counting all as original families (OF) and permanent job agreement with all displaced before their dislocation and maintenance of all displaced till their actual permanent engagement, are fulfilled.
