The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), New Delhi has asked the Baleswar SP to personally appear before it on March 23, 2018 as he failed to submitted report in connection with falling of parts of a fighter plane that injured three persons a few months back.

The NHRC issued the order as the SP didn’t submit report as asked by it earlier conducting a hearing on the complaint of Human Rights Watch secretary Sangita Swain. Mentioning that three persons, Padmabati, Sameer and Rakhi, all residents of Chematata village in Baleswar district had been seriously burnt due to falling of the parts a fighter plane, she had demanded compensation of Rs 5 lakh for each injured.

The commission had directed the SP and other to submit action taken report within four weeks. While Under Secretary to Government of India submitted a partial reply informing that a court of inquiry was done. It revealed that the Air Headquarter has taken up the matter with the RSAF for speedy settlement of the case before starting of JMT-17 and further disposal/decision in the case will be submitted in due course of time.

However, the Baleswar SP didn’t submit any report so far. Taking serious note of it, the commission has directed its Registry to issue summons to the SP u/s 13 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 to appear before the Commission on March 23 along with requisite report in the matter. However, it said if the requisite report is received by the commission on or before March 16, the personal presence of the SP would stand dispensed with.
