National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) Regional head Dharmendra Sarangi and a technical team visited the Samjajpur railway over-bridge site and conducted inspections.
The over-bridge in Puri district is again in the news because a portion of the flyover has caved in from its actual height. This has led to uncertainty over the movement of vehicles on the over-bridge ahead of the annual Rath Yatra of lord Jagannath in June this year.
Thousands of sand-filled bags of the retaining wall of the bridge caught fire four days back. Sources said some miscreants had set fire to the sand bags, due to which a portion of the over bridge subsided.
NHAI regional head Sarangi said they are trying their best to complete the repair work before the Rath Yatra. The NHAI has taken the task on a priority basis.
The technical team accessed the strength and stability of the over-bridge. After their report, a concrete view can be taken. Immediately, there is no danger, an official said.
Earlier, vehicular movement had been disrupted for a month after a portion of the over-bridge caved in during the last year’s Rath Yatra.
