The Balangir Town police on Wednesday arrested six persons, including a young woman, and forwarded them to court levelling serious charges against them for allegedly kidnapping and subjecting two persons to extreme barbaric torture with shades of sadism to get back their money taken by one of them.

The case came to light after the two persons, Sanand Sahu and Sanatan Pradhan of Balandabahal under the Sadar police limits, managed to escape from the clutches of their abductors in the wee hours of Wednesday and narrated their horrific experience to the police, following which police raided several locations and arrested the accused.

The police arrested prime accused Bimal Joshi (32) and his accomplices Dhananjay Mishra (43), Babloo Mishra (27), Manoj Chhatriya (25), Ranjan Senapati and Salendri Barik. The victim duo said Sanand had worked for a voluntary organisation Chetana run by Bimal Joshi and Sanjay Mishra. Sanand, who has now quit the organisation, had taken some money from the organisation. Sanand with his friends had come to Balangir on Tuesday and met Sailendri Barik, who worked with Chetana. Being informed by Sailendri over phone, Bimal arrived and took Sanand on his scooty to Chetana Plus Two College at Malapada. At 4 pm, Sanatan received a call to come with Rs 5,000 to Chetana College. Sanatan reached Chetana at 9 pm. Bimal and his accomplices captured Sanatan along with his bike. Sanand was earlier severely thrashed by Bimal and his accomplices. After Sanatan’s arrival, they locked both Sanand and Sanatan in a room and began thrashing them. Even they branded Sanand and Sanatan on their private parts with lighted cigarettes and forced them to indulge in unnatural sex apart from urinating on them. The torture continued till late in the night. The duo bore it till they managed to escape in the wee hours on Wednesday.
