In what can be termed as an irresponsible decision in life, a newly-married woman driven by love eloped with her boyfriend from her in-laws’ house on the 15th day of her marriage, and a few days later got betrayed by him, much to the worry of her parents. The incident occurred at a village under the Ali police station in Kendrapada district.
According to police, one Urmila Mahunta of Tangantaila village of the Rajnagar police limits had been in love with Siba Prasad Parida of Santhapada village for the last 5 years. Siba, who was staying in Dubai, denied to marring her. As a result, Urmila married a youth of Badiha village under the Ali police station on May 5.
Recently, Siba returned home and telephoned Urmila. He told Urmila to marry him else he would commit suicide. The two made a plan and, on June 1 night, Siba came near Urmila’s in-laws’ house and took away her. Urmila allegedly took gold ornaments with her.
They soon went to Bhubaneswar where they stayed for couple of days together and had physical relationship. later, they returned to Pattamaundai and stayed in Siba’s friend’s house. Siba later fled from his friend’s house leaving Urmila alone there. Urmila later came to know that Siba has betrayed her by marrying another girl on Thursday.
The whole matter came to the fore as she lodged a complaint with the Rajnagar police station on Thursday alleging that Siba had forced her to go with him and demanding his arrest. Acting on the complaint, the Rajnagar police conducted a raid but failed to nab Siba Prasad as he was absconding. The police then told Urmila’s elder brother to take her to their home to which he didn’t agree. As a result, the police sent Urmila to a short-stay home at Kendrapada.
