Newborn returned to parents

The five-day-old baby, who had been illegally detained by a private hospital staff at Choudwar, was handed over to her parents late on Monday night in the presence of police. Following a hue and cry, the baby allegedly sold to an issue-less couple in the Salepur area, had been retrieved by the Choudwar police.

Wife of a daily wage earner had given birth to the girl at the Janasevak Nursing Home on the night of September 9. But when the baby’s parents failed to pay the hospital bill amounting to Rs 4300, the hospital authorities discharged the mother on Sunday and asked her to collect the baby only after paying the hospital dues.

But when the parents returned to the hospital on Monday morning to take back the baby after paying the dues, the hospital took a U turn and even denied the whole incident. However, following media reports, the local police swung into action to unite the mother and the baby.

The police in the meantime have registered a case in this connection and are examining four employees of the hospital even as its owner is absconding.
