A newborn boy found floating in a flower basket in the canal near Gopalapali here on Saturday died despite the doctors' efforts to save his life.
The infant had been spotted floating in the canal near Gopalapali by local residents in the forenoon.
The baby was rescued in a critical condition, and the locals got him admitted to the Sambalpur Sadar Hospital.
The baby, who was undergoing treatment at the Sick Newborn Care Units (SNCU) of the hospital, died shortly later, sources said.
