Next day, the couple sold their daughter to a person allegedly with the help of an ASHA Worker.

Following information, a team of officials of the District Child Protection Unit arrived at Ranpur on Thursday to inquire into the incidence.  On interrogation, Rana admitted that he had sold his newborn daughter to a person at Rs6,000. “I have two daughters and a son. I was worried over the birth of another daughter. As I am a poor man, I won’t be able to maintain another daughter, for which I was forced to sell the newborn,” Rana said.
