The State Government on Wednesday proposed to open new subjects and increase the seats in two Government colleges in the State.
The Khallikote Autonomous College at Brahmapur would open Mphil degree in subjects including History, English and Education with eight seats each from the academic session 2014-15.
Similarly, the seats for Botany and Zoology Honours in the Rajdhani College, Bhubaneswar would be increased by 16 and 32, respectively, from the session 2013-14.
Deputy Secretary to Government Nivedita Prusty on Wednesday wrote a letter to the Director of Higher Education (DHE) seeking his permission for the proposals.
However, the permission for opening of new subjects and increase of seats is subject to certain conditions. No additional teacher would be required for the proposed strength and the teaching workload on the college would be managed within the existing sanctioned strength for the colleges.
Similarly, no additional funds along with staff would be sanctioned during the current academic session 2013-14. And, after increment of seats and introduction of new subjects, the classes would be managed by the existing infrastructure.
