Anew sports policy would be announced by the State Government soon to promote different types of games and make Odisha the country’s sports hub. This was stated by Sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera in the State Assembly on Friday.
Currently, the National Sports Policy is in force in the State. A draft on the State’s own sports policy has been prepared and it would come up very soon, the Minister said in a reply to BJD member Bhupinder Singh’s question.
He also informed that though a survey is yet to be conducted on the number of sportspersons in the State, they are now being provided identity cards. And the sportspersons having played at international events have been provided jobs in various sectors.
While athlete Srabani Nanda was given a job in the Odisha Hydro Power Corporation, sprint queen Dutee Chand got an employment in the Odisha Mining Corporation. And a total of 96 sportspersons have been given jobs in the police department, the Minister said.
