A team of Wild Orissa sighted a new bird species Dollarbird (Eurystomus orientalis) for the first time in Odisha's Berbera-Dhuanali reserve forest that falls under the Puri forest division in Khordha district. According to Wild Orissa chief spokesperson Kulamani Deo, the bird was previously sighted from north-east India, western/central/eastern Himalayas, Central and South Western Ghats and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

The specimen was perched high on bare branches of a tall tree and had medium-sized rollers having a deep dark-brown head and neck that tapered into the bluish-green body plumage, it said. The tips of the wings were dark-grey with the leading edge being bluish-violet, as was the throat. The tail was dark brown-grey. In-flight, a light-blue patch showed in the primary flight feathers, claimed Wild Orissa. The bill was stout and slightly down curved and very conspicuously red, with a tiny black tip, it said adding that the legs and feet were also red. The bird is also called as the Oriental Dollarbird/Broad-billed Roller/Asian Broad-Billed Roller.
