New signage for city's monuments mulled

The Ekamra Kshetra will soon have 521heritage signage to go in sync with the beautiful monuments and other ancient structures, which are presently dotted with normal signage, often found as a gross mismatch to the unique architectural style and the essence of the Kalingan temple building norms.

While the Heritage Cell of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has done the research and ground work for the design and documentation of the signage project, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will erect the new signage. The Odisha Mining Corporation will finance the project to develop the heritage signage process, in which an investment of more than `2.75 crore is to be made by the mining major.

The BMC has initiated the tendering process for heritage signage for engaging firms to develop it which would be completed within six months from the date of commencement of work.

The new signage will help promote a unified and attractive appearance for all facilities and eliminate inconsistent, ineffective, and unnecessary signs. The theme for each of the signage design has been evolved basing on the Kalingan style of temple architecture incorporating specific elements of Shilpa Sashtra. For narrow lanes of the  City Core design considerations have been made accordingly and infused into the entire process of the signage planning.
