Senior retired bureaucrat Rabi Narayan Senapati on Tuesday assumed charge as the new State Election Commissioner (SEC). Senior officials of the commission gave him a warm welcome and apprised him of various issues about the functioning and status of the commission.
Senapati said he would try to ensure free and fair election to the Panchayati Raj bodies and urban local bodies. Besides, steps would be taken to increase the voting percentage, he added.
“My prime focus would be on increase of the voting percentage and free and fair elections,” said Senapati, a former Development Commissioner. Senapati has been appointed as the State Election Commissioner as his predecessor Ajit Kumar Tripathy retired from the post at the age of 65.
