To some relief for people, the new Rs500 and Rs2000 currency notes were available in banks in the State from Thursday.
large numbers of customers made beelines in banks and post offices and exchanged the old demonetised Rs500 and Rs1000 notes with the new Rs500 and Rs2000 notes. Some people failed to do so because of the heavy rushes and planned to approach the exchange centres in the days to come.
As per norms, the old notes can be exchanged in banks and post offices up to a maximum of Rs4,000 per person till November 24. Proof of identity and an exchange slip duly filled in will be required for availing the facility.
There will be no limit on the exchange from November 25 to December 30.
All the ATMs will become operational from November 11; and customers can withdraw up to Rs2,000 per card per day subjected to an aggregate limit of Rs20,000 per week.
