New Ravenshaw VC takes charge, talks big

Notwithstanding the poor infrastructure, inadequate faculty position and scanty non-teaching staff, newly-appointed Vice-Chancellor of Ravenshaw University Prof Prakash Chandra Sarangi on Thursday talked big stating that he would convert the institution into a research university.

“I will see to it that the Ravenshaw University is rated as one of the top class universities of the country wherein both teachers and students would significantly focus on research,” Sarangi, a former Political Science Professor of the University of Hyderabad told reporters here after assuming charge as the third Vice-Chancellor of the eight-year-old university. When his attention was drawn to the poor infrastructure and the crowded campus of the university that accommodates 8,000 students in 87 acres of land, Prof Sarangi, like his predecessor, said he would ensure that a second campus of the university comes up as soon as possible to ease the burden.
