The State Government would introduce a new health policy soon in order to stop the brain drain of doctors and address the issue of scarcity of doctors, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das here on Sunday.
Stating that new medical colleges would come up in Talcher, Puri and Sundargarh in coming days, Das said the Government would take all possible steps to appoint all doctors being produced in the State.
“The Government will soon formulate a health policy and set up new medical colleges to retain the doctors and to fill up vacant doctor posts in all Government hospitals across the State,” Das asserted.
Lamenting that a good number of doctors are going outside after completing their education on the State Government’s funding, the Minister said steps would be taken to stop this trend in the interest of the State.
Das also informed that the Government has started a process to appoint a permanent Director at the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla. The post has remained vacant since Dr Ashwini Pujhari resigned from the post following a controversy.
Earlier, Das had asked Chief District Medical Officers (CDMOs) to prepare a 100-day action plan for ensuring quality health service to all. Besides, he had also declared that Odisha would be made a surplus State in the field of doctors and paramedics.
