New gynsecology, medicine wards at S'pur DHH soon

Keeping in view the growing numbers of gynaecology patients, pregnant women and newborn babies, the Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) will soon come up with a new building for Medicine and Gynaecology departments.

“The construction work is going to complete soon.  A 50-bedded building on 15, 000 square feet area with integrated ICU facilities will function at the hospital soon catering to the needs of the entire town and the district,” informed Sambalpur CDMO Dr JK Samantray.

While 50 beds would be made available for maternity care, 10 sophisticated beds would be there for newborns. For the entire construction, the National Health Mission has provided a whopping of Rs 8.98 crore, the CDMO added.

Notably, of the total 233 beds at the DHH, only 27 are meant for the Gynaecology patients though the number of such patients is much higher.

The birth rate in the hospital is 350-400 per month. Hence, the necessity for a separate ward for pregnant mothers and newborn children was felt long ago. The new building can fulfill the requirement, hoped manager of the hospital Sandeep Datta.
