New court complex comes up at Jaleswar

Published on:

Orissa High Court Chief Justice Mohammad Rafiq inaugurated the new court complex of Jaleswar yesterday near the Laxmannath inter-State unified check-gate. Justice Rafiq said efforts are on to lessen the number of pending cases and the new court complex is aimed to expedite them.

A Court of Additional Sessions Judge would also come up soon in Jaleswar, he told.

High Court’s Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo, Baleswar District Judge Hiranmaya Bisoi, district Collector K Sudarshan Chakravarthy, SP Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra and all judicial and district level officers were also present on the occasion.

The new court complex is constructed on the unused building built earlier for the unified check-gate at an expenditure of Rs 1.32 crore. Many lawyers and residents had initially opposed the shifting of the courts from the old complex to the new one citing various reasons, but the Government went ahead with its decision amidst disputes and controversies as the old courts had no space or scope for expansion.

On the occasion, Jaleswar Bar Association president Abadhut Jena and secretary Binod Kumar Sahu submitted a memorandum to the district Collector with a seven-point charter of demands, including construction of a police outpost and a foot over-bridge.
