Hundreds of protestors mostly women residing here at the New AG Colony under the aegis of New AG Colony Mahila Morcha on Sunday staged a dharna in front of the colony gate near Kalinga stadium protesting Accountant General, Odisha (General and Social Audit) Amar Patnaik’s letter to evict the quarters from where a nursery school and a community centre are running.
“At the time of establishment of the colony three decades ago there is a provision that the AG will construct two houses one for a nursery school and another for a community centre on its own cost. However, the AG did not show any interest towards the provision forcing us to arrange two quarters in the colony to run a nursery school and community centre in 1994,” said New AG Colony Residential Committee president Nagen Mohanty.
Mohanty added that unfortunately AG Amar Barik last week had asked the colony management to quit the two quarters and also instructed us to pay the rent of the two quarters from the date of occupation.
“Nearly 70 children of our colony members are studying in the nursing school and while there is no burden of the AG with running the school and community centre then on what ground it asked us to evict the quarters,” said a woman protestor.
Expressing solidarity to the protestors Bhubaneswar Central MlA Bijay Mohanty also came to the dharna site and assured all supports.
“The decision of the AG is arbitrary. I and local MP Prasanna Patasani will raise the issue at proper forums for justice,” said Mohanty.
