Scores of employees under the banner of Nesco Shakti Karmachari Sangha (NSKS) gheraoed the office of a Nesco superintendent engineer here protesting against the company’s decision to extend operation and maintenance of a 33 /11 KV substation in Digirahania to a private contractor.
NSKS general secretary Niranjan Padhiary said that the company’s managing director in a bid to begin lease system has given the maintenance and operation of a substation at Sunahat to a private party. The party wants to operate with seven inexperienced persons, which was stopped by the NSKS.
“The company has initiated leasing and sub leasing system in works pertaining to distribution and maintenance of electricity. With this not only would the quality and accountability be compromised, it will also lead to hike in tariff. While we have experienced workmen with us, it is not understood why the works are being leased outIJ The MD of the company has taken a biased decision without understanding its future implications,” said Padhiary.
