The Nesco Shakti Karmachari Sangh, an employees’ union of the distribution company Nesco, has threatened to embark on agitation from Wednesday to press their demands.
Sangh general secretary Niranjan Padhiary on Tuesday stated that the company is adopting a policy of exploitation both for its employees and consumers. He also alleged that the quality of service for consumers has been deteriorating day by day and the authorities have turned a deaf ear to the consumers’ complaints.
Padhiary said the company has stopped fresh recruitment, as a result of which a large number of vacancies remain unfilled. On the other hand, the company is engaging contractual employees without extending any kind of viable security to them. Those on the contractual jobs are not made permanent despite serving for years.
The other demands of the union included converting the contractual employees to regular, filling up of the vacancies, recruitment of commercial assistants as per the eligibility out of the contractual employees, pension by the first week of each month, finalisation of the pending cases pertaining to the retrenched employees and scrapping of the rule prescribing fine between Rs 150 and Rs 400 for consumers defaulting payment of electricity dues. Sangh president Bramhananda Sahu, Sibnarayan Giri, Batakrushna Jena and Jitendra Mohan Jena were among the functionaries of the Sangh present at the Press meet.
