Neglect to Puri can't be tolerated: Bijay

Senior BJP leader Bijay Mohapatra has come down heavily on the State Government for ‘neglecting’ the holy city of Puri and warned that the apathy cannot be tolerated further.

Mohapatra, who on Thursday inspected the sea beach erosion due to ingress of sea waves at the Swargadwar, told reporters that the Government has been unbearably neglecting the town.

“The Government must rise from deep slumber and take steps to save Puri from all vagaries, be it sea erosion or almost no healthcare services,” he said.

Notably, Puri town has been in news since the Nabakalebar ritual of the Shreemandir lords in 2015 for all wrong reasons.

Despite investment of a huge amount of funds for infrastructural development, several problems have caused wide spread resentment among the locals, the most prominent being water logging on the Grand Road and lack of healthcare facilities at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

Drainage and sewerage projects have failed to deliver to the expectation, he said.

He too lamented that the State Government has filed to stop regular disruptions in the conduct of rituals of the Trinity, which has caused widespread resentment among the devotees.
