Need another police district for BBSR: DGP

In the wake of the State capital city expanding rapidly and due to its burgeoning population that has led to an increasing crime rate, DGP RP Sharma on Thursday urged the State Government to create another police district for Bhubaneswar.

Speaking at the 11th Raising Day ceremony of the Commissionerate police here, Sharma said the city has exponentially expanded; and in order to curb criminal activities and tighten the noose on the criminals in and around the city, two police districts are now needed.

“There is a necessity for creating another police district in Bhubaneswar which would be instrumental in maintaining law and order. Therefore, I request the city Police Commissioner to prepare a proposal in this regard,” said Sharma.

The DGP further said that once the proposal is ready, it would be sent to the Government for its approval. “Setting up of new police stations and reorganisation of jurisdictions of the police stations will be required simultaneously while preparing the proposal,” he added.

On the occasion, many police personnel, who have shown exemplary performances, were awarded. Among others, city CP Satyajit Mohanty DCP Anup Sahu and other senior officers of the Commissionerate police were present.
