Expressing its displeasure over the manner in which the Itishree Pradhan murder case was handled by the State Commission for Women (SCW), the two-member inquiry committee of the National Commission for Women (NCW) Hemlata Kheria and Manasi Pradhan on Tuesday asked the SCW Chairperson lopamudra Buxipatra to play a proactive role in the such issues.
Buxipatra met the two NCW members here on Tuesday to explain the action taken by the SCW in Itishree case.
However, the NCW probe panel expressed its displeasure on SCW’s failure in ensuring justice to the victim. Sources said that the panel asked the SCW to play a more proactive role on women-related issues and take the administration, if necessary, to task to ensure justice to the victims.
The chairperson was also asked to ensure that all the cases filed with the SCW are disposed off in a timely manner and the complainants receive compensation as soon as the cases are disposed.
In course of its seven-day inquiry, the NCW committee gathered documents, testimonies and other evidences pertaining to Itishree case.
After making a detailed study of all the documents and recorded statements, the committee would decide who else should be summoned to Delhi for questioning, sources said. The NCW team will submit its report soon and will ensure that its recommendations are implemented within 10 days of submission of the report.
