National Commission for Women (NCW) Member Sushma Sahu, probing the Parbati Sasmal harassment case, visited Kalikuda village under the Ersama police station in Jagatsinghpur district on Thursday and held talks with the victim and district Superintendent of Police Jayanarayan Pankaj.

later, she said the police have not taken any action against the accused but lodged a counter FIR against the victim.

The NCW Chairperson has sent Sahu to the State to inquire into the alleged assault on Parbati.  She was allegedly assaulted by a group of BJD supporters in her Kalikuda village for handing over a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his road show at Bhubaneswar on April 15.

On Wednesday, Sahu had lashed out at the Odisha police and said crime against women have shown an increasing trend in Odisha but the police are yet to wake up and are simply working at the behest of the State Government. “Odisha has become a slaughter house for women and ironically the police here have become puppets in hands of the Government,” alleged Sahu.
