NCW likely to summon Home Secy, DGP

Taking strong exception to the absence of Director General of Police (DGP) KB Singh at his office for a meeting with National Commission for Women (NCW) Member Susham Sahu despite a scheduled engagement, the NCW would summon the State Home Secretary and DGP soon for a detailed briefing on this issue.

Sources said the NCW’s move is based on the complaint lodged by its member Sahu.

Sahu told reporters here on Saturday that the DGP has insulted her by not remaining present in his office for a discussion regarding women’s safety and security.

Further, citing three instances of police atrocity on women in Sambalpur and one instance each in Nimapada and Angul, she said “The barbarity of Odisha police has reached its height. The police here are not safeguarding the security of women. They are rather working as per their whims and caprices.”

“The commission may summon the DGP if it is not satisfied with the clarification of the Home Secretary,” she said.

The DGP was  not present in his office when Sahu reached there on Friday afternoon for a meeting that she said had been fixed five days ago. Nor did the DGP depute any officer to meet her in his absence, the NCW Member alleged.
