National Commission for Women chairperson Mamta Sharma on Sunday visited the parents of the 14-year old blind girl, who was gangraped and murdered on June 7 on the Puri-Konark marine drive and demanded immediate suspension of the investigating officer (IO) in the case and Sadar police station IIC.
Sharma, accompanied by Head of Honour for Women National Campaign Manasi Pradhan, held discussions with the victim's parents and villagers and informed that an inquiry team would soon be formed to investigate the rape and murder issue. Earlier in the day, Sharma attended a national meet on empowering rural women organised by leading women organisation OYSS Women near Balugaon, Chilika.
Notably, Sharma had accused the State Government on Saturday of being “insensitive” to crimes against women.
