National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) Chairman Nanda Kishore Sai, during his visit here, expressed his discontent over the approaches of the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) and district administration regarding resolving the issues of displaced persons.
Sai, besides visiting various rehabilitation colonies and slum areas of the city, also conducted a review meeting with the district administrative officials and senior RSP officials.
"Against allegations that justice has not been done with thousands of tribal displaced of RSP, the commission had examined into various facts and also held review meeting with the administrative officials and RSP officials," Sai said.
He added that the district administration has short listed as many as 1,098 persons, who are yet to be provided employment in the RSP, but the commission received allegations that some of the fake names are still figuring in this list where as some genuine persons are missing from the list.
Similarly, another 163 persons were short listed, to be provided employment during 2013, but have not yet been provided employment, Sai said further.
He also mentioned that allegations of large scale irregularities have also come in other areas like rehabilitation and payment of compensation and land provided to displaced in exchange of their land.
Sai also claimed that the commission has taken up the issue seriously and will take necessary measures shortly.
