A high-level team of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) led by its Chairman Dr Rameswar Oraon would visit Kandhamal to probe the killing of five tribal civilians in crossfire between security forces and Maoists on Friday night.
Expressing concern over the killing of the tribal villagers, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram on Sunday held a detailed discussion with his Ministry’s Secretary Shyamsundar Agrawal, stated a Press release issued by the Union Minister’s office.
The team would conduct a detailed probe into the incident focussing on the circumstances of the firing to find out who were responsible for this, and would also take stock of the steps taken by the State Government with regard to assistance to the kin of the deceased and probe, it added.
The team has been asked to submit a report to the Ministry soon.
