Remembering the sacrifices of the heroes of the Kargil war of 1999, a cycle rally was taken out by NCC candidates of Bhawanipanta Naval Unit on Monday.
Hundreds of students participated in the rally which was taken out from Bhawanipatna to Phurlijharan.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated on July 26 in honour of the heroes of the Kargil war. On this day in 1999, the Indian Army announced that Pakistani forces and intruders had been driven out from all occupied territories on the Indian side in Kargil.
The rally was flagged off by Home Minister Divya Shankar Mishra, WODC Chairman Asit Tripathy and Bhawanipatna Naval unit commandant Venket Ravi Yadu.
Minister Mishra said the NCC candidates would be inspired following the rally as many jawans had laid down their lives fighting with the enemy at 18,000 feet high mountain under -15 degree temperature.
Tripahy said the sacrifice of jawans will boost the NCC students’ confidence.
