Naveen's populist programmes won't end poverty

Published on:

This refers to your report published on December 27 in which Naveen Patnaik accused the Congress as “corrupt” and the BJP as “communal”. I emphatically disagree with the point of views of Mr Patnaik.

The remark is preposterous, puerile and palpably ridiculous. let me point out the recent Assembly election results in MP, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh in which the BJP secured thumping majorities. In Delhi, it won 34 seats out of 70, surpassing both the Congress and the AAP. Are these States  communalIJ

Some political parties are pursuing the policy of appeasement to garner the support of minority community and concerned with communal agenda. Are these parties free from communal temperament and instinctIJ I do not castigate Naveen Patnaik in point of his integrity, but his system of governance and method of administration do not suit the States’ interests. What plausible progress has Odisha achieved during more than 14 years of his ruleIJ The progress of the industries is sluggish. The agriculture sector is grossly neglected. Adequate infrastructures are not being provided to farmers for expected growth of production. Crop failure has compelled farmers to commit suicide. To get rid of abysmal poverty and for livelihood, the people of Odisha are migrating to other States. Odisha is markedly poor though we are rich in minerals and have long coastal belts. Populist programmes cannot lead to progress of the State; it is only for electoral allurement and inducement.
