BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday urged his party people to prepare well for the forthcoming cooperative elections in the State.
Patnaik said this while inaugurating a workshop on cooperative benefits at the Panthnivas here. “Each BJD member must work to ensure a vibrant and efficient cooperative network in the State,” he said.
The day-long event was attended by Ministers, MlAs, some former Cooperative Bank officers and cooperative workers both from the grassroots and top levels.
On October 28, the Chief Minister had announced a 12-member State-level coordination committee led by Athagarh MlA Ranendra Pratap Swain to oversee the elections on behalf of the BJD.
The other members of the committee are Nagendra Pradhan, Prafulla Samal, Jiban Pradip Das, Bhagirathi Badajena, Rajanikant Singh, Balabhadra Majhi, Debesh Acharya, Rabinarayan Nanda, Sesha Kumar Meher, Umesh Swain, Alekh Choudhury and Girish Das.
The elections to the 9,733 primary cooperative societies in the State would be held in two phases, on January 18 and 25.
