The ruling BJD kick-started its campaign for the May 31 by-election to the Brajrajnagar Assembly seat by organising a party workers’ meet here.

BJD organisational secretary Pranab Prakash Das, Minister and Jharsuguda MLA Naba Kisore Das, Labour Minister Sushant Singh and party observer for Jharsuguda district and Cuttack Mayor Subash Singh attended the meeting along with Councillors and Sarpanches of the district.

In a one-line proposal, Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik was requested to select the party candidate. Thereafter, the party leaders resolved to work hard and take collective responsibility to ensure the victory of the candidate nominated by the high command.

Minister Das told reporters that the BJD candidate would surely register a victory by a big margin of votes.

Responding to queries regarding candidature of his daughter Deepali Das from Brajrajnagar, he said the media is engaging in speculations. The decision to nominate a candidate would be with CM Naveen Patnaik and him alone and we, as the workers of the party, would firmly back the candidate nominated by him.
