BJP State president KV Singh Deo on Thursday accused Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik of shielding the culprits behind the blast furnace-II explosion in Bhushan Steel limited’s (BSl) plant at Meramunduli in Dhenkanal district.
“There are more than 200 cases in different courts of the State against the BSl, but no visible action has been taken against the company so far,” alleged Singh Deo in a statement. “The Chief Minister has put his self-interest above the State,” he added.
Accusing Naveen Patnaik of shielding the Bhushan boss, the BJP leader claimed that the company has flouted all the norms prescribed under the Forest and Environment Act and other Acts.
“The safety measures in the plant were overlooked which was in gross violation of the labour Act. This resulted in the accident in the Bhushan plant killing several innocent people,” he pointed out.
