Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik received a tumultuous welcome ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) workers and Ministerial colleagues and fans here when he returned from New Delhi on Tuesday after receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Capital Foundation Society.

A multitude of people gathered outside the Biju Patnaik International Airport to receive Patnaik after he was conferred with the honour for his immense contributions to politics as well as inclusive development of the State.

The overcrowded airport reverberated with sounds of gongs and conches and slogans praising Patnaik. Wearing their traditional costumes, tribal women performed folk dances on the road.

The road from the airport to the Naveen Niwas was packed with large gatherings causing traffic snarls at several places.

After landing at airport, Patnaik waved at his supporters gathered outside the airport. Addressing the crowd, he expressed his gratitude to people of Odisha for the grand welcome and honour. He dedicated the award to the 4.5 crore of Odisha people.

“Priya Bhai O Bhauni Mane! Apana mane khusi ta? Mu bi bahut khusi (Dear brothers and sisters! Are you happy? I am happy too),” said Patnaik from the luxury bus by which he proceeded to his residence. Notably, this bus had been used by him for campaigning in the last general elections.

Before heading for the Naveen Niwas, Patnaik went to Biju Patnaik’s statue to offer floral tribute to his late father in the airport premises.
