An anonymous letter threatening to assassinate Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was received at his residence Naveen Niwas here on Thursday.
The letter, written in English, said contract killers armed with assault rifles like AK-47 and semi-automatic pistols are out to kill Patnaik.“These contract killers are professional criminals and can attack you any time. So please be aware that these contract killers are continuously following you. The mastermind lives in Nagpur..,” mentioned the letter.The letter also mentioned the registration numbers of 17 cars of Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Punjab, Odisha, Delhi, Haryana and Maharashtra in which the ‘criminals’ are reportedly following Patnaik.
The Home Department has sent the letter to the DGP and the Commissionerate police for investigation and follow-up action. Meanwhile, the security cover of the Chief Minister, who already has a Z plus security cover, has been beefed up to counter any potential threat.
