Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday expressed deep grief over the death of the separated conjoined twin Kalia, who died while undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack on Wednesday night.

Patnaik said Kalia’s death, despite efforts and best treatment provided by doctors, is very disheartening.

“May God give strength to the bereaved family members in this difficult time,” he statedHe also prayed for good health of Jaga, Kalia’s twin brother. As per hospital sources, the health condition of Kalia had deteriorated in the last one week and he died due to septicemia and shock. However, Jaga’s condition is stated to be stable.

For the past one and a half years, Kalia was undergoing treatment along with Jaga at the SCB Hospital following their return from the AIIMS New Delhi, where the twins had undergone a head separation surgery. In October 2017,  the twins had been separated after a marathon surgery at AIIMS New Delhi.
