With the three-tier panchayat polls fast approaching, the ruling BJD has redoubled its efforts for a clean sweep in the polls.
As part of the process, party supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik started holding discussions with party MPs, MlAs and observers at his residence on Monday.
On the first day, Patnaik had a discussion with the Ministers, MPs, MlAs, observers and senior party leaders from Ganjam district.
The meeting discussed about strategies to wrest all seats in the district. The Chief Minister asked the party leaders to work in coordination with all party workers.
“The party supremo asked senior party leaders to prepare a list of candidates having clean image and no dispute. Besides, he also asked the district poll observers and each MlA to propose names of three candidates each for the Zilla Parishad and submit the list to him through the poll observers,” former Minister and party spokesperson Surjya Narayan Patro told mediapersons after the meeting.
Former Minister and Ganjam poll observer Maheswar Mohanty, who was present at the meeting, said the Chief Minister asked the district party leaders to amicably sort out the disputes relating to selection of candidates for ZP election.
He, however, said there is specific time limit for submission of the candidates’ lists since the last date for filing nominations is on January 17.
