Naveen Govt a multi-organ failure, says Congress

Published on:

launching a scathing attack again on the Naveen Patnaik Government on completion of two years of its fourth term, PCC president Prasad Harichandan on Saturday equated the Government’s shortcomings as “multi-organ failure” in the State administration.

The State Government has been indicted by the Supreme Court and the Accountant General in various cases. It has failed on all fronts, Harichandan told mediapersons here.

He said the Government has been indicted by the apex court in cases like missing children, sex video scandal, from Madhbilata to Itishree murder case, and chit fund scam during the last two years.

He cited an AG report to point out that the Government has lost Rs 13,000 crore revenue due to various omissions and commissions in tax administration. On the other hand, the Government has gone on a spree of launching schemes, which is bleeding the State exchequer, he observed.

“Failing to spend funds provided by the Centre under different schemes, the BJD Government has returned Rs 1,000 crore in the last year and Rs 6,000 crore between 2008-09 and 2013-14. It is disappointing that the Chief Minister is reading out reply notes only and not speaking extempore during his address to media for the last 16 years,” alleged Harichandan.

Regarding the Government’s move to open the closed mines, he said it is a blunder to go ahead with the decision without waiting for the Supreme Court’s verdict in this regard. Harichandan said the Government has spent Rs 135.35 crore to recruit only 752 people by organising job fairs across the State. The youths have been betrayed by not ensuring the Government job to them, he alleged.

Raising a finger at Patnaik’s claim of transparency in governance, the PCC Chief said MlAs and MPs of the BJD party have already been arrested by the CBI in connection with the chit fund scam, and the probe agency has even reached the Naveen Niwas.
